Seiza 正座【せいざ】Japanese Lesson #90

<Seiza is a traditional way of sitting in Japan. Your feet will go to sleep if you’re not accustomed to it. >

サカモトは正座せいざをしていたが、あしのしびれよりも、水虫みずむしのかゆさに我慢がまんできなかった。

Sakamoto was sitting in seiza but rather than having numbness in his feet,
he couldn’t put up with the itchiness of his athlete’s foot any longer.

正座(せいざ):a traditional way of sitting in Japan

足(あし):feet

しびれ:numbness, (a body part) going asleep

よりも:than, rather

水虫(みずむし):athlete’s foot

かゆさ:itchiness

我慢できない(がまんできない):can’t stand something anymore, can’t put up with something/someone
