Titan 巨人【きょじん】Japanese Lesson #96

サービス精神せいしんが旺盛おうせいな巨人きょじんは、カメラに気きを取とられて落下らっかしてしまった。

The hospitable titan got distracted by the camera and fell down.

 

→体からだは大おおきいけれど、脳のうみそは小さい。

Although he’s big, his brains are small.

 

Vocab Breakdown

サービス精神が旺盛(サービスせいしんがおうせい）：Okay you might be thinking, “How the hell does that whole thing = hospitable?!” and my answer is: don’t think about the words individually but what the overall meaning conveys. サービス精神 literally means “the spirit of service” and 旺盛 is literally “overflowing with vigor”….what? This set has been used for a long time to just simply mean “wow, great hospitality!” or “what a committed (e.g. teacher)” and the like. This is probably the only time you will see 旺盛.

巨人（きょじん）：a titan, a giant, think attack on titan 進撃の巨人

カメラ：camera

気を取られる：an expression to mean “get distracted”.

落下する（らっかする）：to fall (like 落ちる but 落下 feels more like it suddenly happened)
